The municipality of San Nicolás is mostly surrounded by mountains and rivers. Its urban area and 29 rural communities live from agriculture, although livestock is also a part of its economy but in a smaller scale. The traditional festivities are held on December 15th, in honor of 'San Nicolas'.

San Nicolas is located 148 kilometers from Managua and 25 from the city of Esteli. You get here after reaching the Cerro Tomaba Natural Reserve. There is a detour on the Pan American Highway where you will find an unpaved road. After 13 kilometers, you will get to San Nicolas.
