The National Park Maderas Volcano is located in Ometepe Island. It shelters one of the best conserved forests of Nicaragua, created by the influence between the humidity of the Caribbean area, the particularities of the Pacific zone and its location in the biggest water reservoir of Central America: The Cocibolca Lake.
The adventure begins in the morning. We will walk towards the Reserve entrance at the Ecological Shelter El Porvenir. This place has amazing panoramic views of the Concepción Volcano and Playa Santo Domingo, it is also surrounded by petroglyphs.
After 1 hour tour through forests and crops areas we will reach one of the best viewpoints of the Maderas Volcano: El Porvenir Viewpoint. This site has benches so we can rest a little and enjoy the beautiful view. From this point the weather turns colder and the slopes tougher. From time to time, howler monkeys and birds can be heard.
After a long walk we will get to the beautiful lagoon of the Maderas Volcano where you can take a bath or rest in its shores.
To give you an even greater experience, the return will be through other trail: The Magdalena Trail. Normally the descent is easier and faster than the ascent, however it depends on the physical and mental condition of the tourist.
The tour ends at Hotel Finca Magdalena, an antique plantation house of wood property of 25 local families part of a cooperative of Rural Tourism. At Finca Magdalena the tourist can have different services and buy organic products like coffee and honey.

This tour has been created to learn more about the culture in Ometepe Island. The journey begins at the pick up point (hotel or Moyogalpa port), to later visit the main streets of the island and some communities.
Once at Charco Verde, we will begin a 45 minute walk through the reserve and enjoy the wildlife. You will be able to observe monkeys, birds and different reptiles. The walk will continue until we reach the Green Lagoon (LagunaVerde in Spanish). During this tour, tourist can appreciate beautiful views and listen to stories and mithology of the area.
After visiting the lagoon, we will head to El Porvenir or Magdalena community, located in the Maderas Volcano foothills, where petroglyphs can be seen. Enjoy 1 hour walk to look closer the preserved Pre-Columbian pieces of the area.
The next stop is Playa Santo Domingo, where the tourist can relax, take a swim and have a delicious lunch at the lake shores in a local restaurant. After having a smooth break, we will go to the Ojo de Agua. Return to the Moyogalpa Port or the hotel.
