Rubén Darío National Theater and the Embassy of the United States in Nicaragua invite you to enjoy a musical of high quality with the representation of _”The Sound of Music” on November 11th and 12th at 7:30pm in the Main Hall (Sala Mayor) of Rubén Darío National Theater. The entrance will cost US$10, US$15 or US$20, according to the seats.

Ramón Rodríguez, Director of the National Theater, explained that “The Sound of Music is having its 50th anniversary and it has been the occasion to reproduce this play in a lot of countries to celebrate the play that marked so many youth in its time”. He added that in Nicaragua, the movie stayed in the billboards for more than two months and buses came from the different departments to be able to see it. The representative of the Embassy of the United States insisted on the fact that the story sets out important issues and values that are still current such as patriotism, true love, freedom and social inclusion.

This show will be of high artistic level as the Theater contracted two Spanish specialists of muscial in order to produce a high quality work. It is important to remind that musicals are a very complete kind of shows as they mix live music and acting.
For those representations, we will have the participation of almost 100 artists: 40 musicians from the Camerata Bach, 28 soloists, 8 professional dancers and about 20 actors more.

The main characters will be interpreted by Nicaraguan singers: Elliette Martínez in the role of Maria, Oscar Pineda for Captain Von Trapp, Elisa Picado as Mother Abbess, Angélica Chamorro and Joe Palacios. Ramón Rodríguez commented that it will also be the debut of a few new young talents, some of which are members of the Schola Cantorum Rubén Darío.

Those last years, the National Theater has made a lot of efforts to impulse young Nicaraguan artists, always giving them more opportunities, but also to bring culture to a larger public. In this context, on November 10th, the general rehearsal will be presented for free to around 800 youths learning English and almost 400 retirees.

This event is sponsored by the Nicaraguan telecommunication Company Claro.
